What can you say about Malaysian 2008 General Election campaign trend? Can you spot any differences in the way the competing parties run their campaign? Where does the trend moving? In this post, I’m not going to reveal anything shocking about the campaign trend for the coming general election in March. Just some notes about the usual thing.

So what does Malaysian Political Campaign and marketing have in common? With only 13 days to campaign, the shortest campaign period to date, how can political parties in Malaysia utilize marketing knowledge to their advantages? I’m going to briefly look into this and if anyone interested, leave your thought in the comment box and we’ll take this further but first…

The common thing about a political campaign and a marketing campaign.

First, both campaigns aim for the same thing: to win ‘customers’. In marketing, the customers are the end-user, who ever they may be and for political campaign, the customers are the voters.

Second, both campaigns have a ‘brand’ to promote. Political parties promote the party as a brand.

Third, both campaigns have product and in politics, the product is not tangible but it’s still a product, namely manifesto, improvement and social benefits.

The best thing about making profit with resale rights is that the reseller has total control over the whole deal. Unlike affiliate marketer, a reseller makes profit immediately after a sale is secured and there’s no two weeks or one month waiting period to get the commission.

This doesn’t mean that affiliate marketing is a less profitable venture than selling resale rights. It just means better control and faster profit.
